Looking for a good cheap reliable sewing machine

Am in the market for a good, cheap and reliable sewing machine now. I have never touched a sewing machine before. God knows if i'll sew my fingers together or not when i'm using it. I want to use it to make cloth dolls. Got my hand on a great Tilda Dolls book. Well, i'll go through the book first and see if i can make it by hand. Sure dont want to spend money unnecessarily these days.
